WORKING TOGETHER
Some useful information on how to get the best contribution out of me - and what I'm looking to find in this new adventure.
#HRTECH
Working in the startup ecosystem has been truly amazing. Working with the BlueChilli team has been a gift for my brain. I have been able to experiment in my role thanks to the great autonomy we are afforded as part of the Leadership team. However, working in startup when you are in the HR or People Team, often means you are working alone and have limited paths of growth. HR is not a priority for startups! They are busy staying alive through the week! I am eager to join an organisation that has a record of commitment to HR and People as a core part of the business.
COLLABORATION
What excites me the most about this the L&D Manager role is the fact that is partners the HRBP team. You have collaboration right there on the job description! I love the autonomy I have in my current role, but having people to bounce ideas and connect with is invaluable. We grow when we're uncomfortable, so I'd love to be surrounded by smart people who disagree with me and hopefully learn from them. My curiosity is stronger than my stubbornness, so I'm eager to start learning from my peers.
LEARNING
I'd like to sink my teeth into data and metrics as linked to L&D. I naturally look for patterns and seeks trends, so this seems to be the organic next step in my #HRTech career. I would also like to enable the learning of other team members, using my previous experience and acquired expertise.
FOCUS
I have loved having access and visibility to all aspects of the business, and a true seat at the table as part of the Leadership Team at BlueChilli. However, being in a startup environment also means wearing many hats, often changing them mid-sentence. I would love to have a focus point for the next iteration of my career. I enjoy having several projects running at the same time, but I believe they should all be in service of the same vision.
DOING MY BEST WORK
I like charts. They are a great source of clarity for me and others. So I made these two charts. The first one illustrates the components of the work I do juxtaposing my enjoyment versus my expertise. The second one tracks my typical productivity during the day. You might be able to tell from that chat that I am not a morning person. My creative metabolism kicks in around 730pm and sometimes even at 1am! I tend to work from home during times I need intense focus or I need some recharge time. It's good to know these things about yourself (but having charts help).
ADDED VALUE & OTHER FUN THINGS
- I'm a great facilitator! I love running workshops, designing them and then training others how to run them.
- I'm a (shy but) good writer. I used to have a column on The Startup Daily and have written for The Collective Hub and the BlueChilli blog over the last few years. It helps me metabolise my thoughts and it's a great exercise in empathy.
- I am an inclusion and diversity expert. I have implemented inclusion policies and practices at BlueChilli, which is now reflected in our team Report Card. I'm very proud of that.
- I live with mild anxiety. It's both my superpower and my weakness. But as I have grown older I have realised that it's easy to keep under control with a little meditation, a couple of Pilates sessions a week and time to recharge.
- I bake. A lot.
WHAT ATLASSIAN BRINGS TO THE TABLE
As you can now perfectly tell, I would like to be your next Senior L&D Program Manager - and perhaps even lead that team one day. But what I am looking for the most is an organisation that offers room for both creativity and stability. I have made a joyful career in startup for the last decade, and it has been wonderful. I believe that it has afforded me the expertise and knowledge to make great contributions in service of the Atlassian team. I'd love to take you from great to awesome - one program at at time!
